Diane and her husband have lived in Midhurst since 1975. As a qualified teacher she taught in many Rother Valley schools and ran her own pre-school nursery before working for the WSCC Out of School Learning Service. For 10 years she assisted with the education of students, of all ages, who were unable to access mainstream schooling.

In the 1970s and 80s, she assisted with the foundation of the Midhurst and District Community Association which led to the construction of the first Grange Centre. She organised many of the art, craft and music events as well as volunteering at the Day Centre and running youth clubs.

Whilst raising their two children, they enjoyed singing and performing folk music and dance. They were founder members of the local Clog Morris side.

Walking, gardening, playing bowls and and creating useful items in textiles remain a significant part of her life.
