The Reverend David Willis is married to Sarah-jane and they have two children – Poppy (9) and Jacob (7).
Dave trained for ordination at Rippon College Cuddesdon and was ordained in 2010. He served his curacy in Ifield, Crawley, and was installed as our vicar in November 2013.
Dave has spent most of his life in Sussex, growing up in Middleton-on-sea and going to secondary school in Chichester. When he left school, Dave spent a gap-year working for the Youth and Children’s department of the Diocese of Chichester and later on was employed as a full-time youth worker at St Andrew’s Burgess Hill. Dave still enjoys youth work and enjoys leading the parish youth group (Ignite) as well as Messy Church and spending time in school.
Dave and his family love living in Midhurst and getting out for walks in the countryside with Otto their miniature daschund.
After his ordination in 2010, Dave served three years as curate of Ifield, Crawley, where he gained considerable experience in a busy parish, and took particular responsibility for the Barn Church in Bewbush and St Alban’s Church in Gossops Green.
Dave and his family moved to Midhurst in November 2013. See some pictures of Dave’s Installation evening HERE.
Mike Abbott was elected as Churchwarden in 2015 after a long gap from when he last undertook this role. He and his wife, Chrissy, have worshipped in Midhurst Parish Church continuously since 1977 – a place they both cherish.
Mike retired from a forty-four-year-long career in local government and the charity sector in 2014, and then achieved a long-held ambition – walking every step of the 500-mile Camino Santiago in Spain – the medieval pilgrimage route. He remains a keen long-distance walker and is currently writing a reflective book based on his experiences: Always a Pilgrim.
He was licensed as a Reader in 2000, and completed an MA Theology in 2014. He feels very privileged to preach in church. He currently helps to organise the fellowship and fundraising events, and, with Chrissy, is a co–founder of Midhurst Foodbank. He hopes to be engaged in a project to address loneliness, and to develop interfaith dialogue. He and Chrissy have three married sons, and four grandchildren.
Mrs Jenny Dennett has been a Churchwarden since April 2014. Her additional responsibilities include Pastoral Co-ordinator, Chair of Finance, Fabric and Fundraising Team and helping with Children’s Work. Her working life was in education. For relaxation interests include handbell ringing and learning to play the ukulele!
Administrator – Sandy Ryrie and her colleague Margaret Langridge are responsible for the Parish Office, which is often the first point of contact for the Church here in Midhurst.
